Monsoon-Hit Road Networks Slow PET and ABS Resin Movements Across West and Central India – July 15, 2026

15 Jul, 2026

Heavy monsoon rains are disrupting road freight networks across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat today, slowing PET bottle grade and ABS resin deliveries to converters and processors. Logistics delays are pushing lead times higher and forcing buye

Market Overview

As of July 15, 2026, logistics conditions for polymer resin distribution across West and Central India have deteriorated sharply due to intensifying monsoon activity. Key highway corridors connecting major polymer distribution hubs in Surat, Pune, Nagpur, and Indore are experiencing waterlogging, road closures, and reduced truck availability. PET bottle grade resin and ABS engineering resin are among the grades most affected, given their high movement volumes through these corridors.

Transporters and freight operators report that transit times on key routes have extended by two to four days compared to pre-monsoon norms. Several smaller logistics providers have temporarily suspended operations on vulnerable stretches of National Highway 48 and NH 44, citing safety concerns and vehicle damage risks. This is adding pressure to an already stretched distribution network that serves converters, packaging manufacturers, and auto component producers across the region.

Demand and Supply

Demand for PET bottle grade resin remains firm from the beverage and pharmaceutical packaging sectors, which are operating at high utilisation rates during the summer-to-monsoon transition period. However, the inability to move material efficiently from warehouses in Surat and Navi Mumbai to end-users in Pune, Aurangabad, and Nagpur is creating localised shortages at converter facilities. Some processors report having only five to seven days of working stock, well below their preferred buffer of two to three weeks.

ABS resin demand from auto component manufacturers in the Pune-Chakan belt and consumer electronics assemblers in Nashik is also being impacted. Suppliers indicate that dispatches scheduled for this week have been deferred, and some buyers are exploring spot procurement from secondary traders to bridge the gap. Domestic production from key manufacturers remains stable, but the last-mile delivery challenge is the critical bottleneck today.

Price Trends

The logistics disruption is beginning to exert upward pressure on delivered prices for both PET and ABS grades in affected regions. Indicative landed costs for PET bottle grade resin in Pune and Nagpur have risen modestly this week as freight surcharges are applied by carriers operating under difficult conditions. ABS resin delivered prices in the Pune automotive cluster are similarly firming, reflecting the combination of tight supply pipelines and elevated freight costs.

Traders note that spot premiums over contract prices are emerging in pockets where inventory is critically low. However, market participants expect this to be a short-term phenomenon tied directly to the monsoon disruption cycle, rather than a structural shift in pricing fundamentals.

Regional Focus

Maharashtra is the epicentre of today's logistics stress, with Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur districts all reporting significant freight delays. In Madhya Pradesh, the Indore industrial cluster, which is a key consumption point for ABS and engineering resins, is also facing delayed inbound shipments from Gujarat-based distributors. Gujarat itself, while a major supply origin point, is experiencing internal distribution challenges as feeder roads to smaller converter units in Vapi and Ankleshwar face waterlogging.

Rail freight, which handles a portion of bulk polymer movements, is providing partial relief on longer routes, but the first- and last-mile road connectivity issues remain unresolved. Warehouse operators in Bhiwandi near Mumbai report increased dwell times as outbound dispatches slow down.

Outlook

Market participants expect logistics conditions to remain challenging through the remainder of July 2026, as the monsoon season is forecast to remain active across West and Central India. Buyers are being advised by distributors to advance their procurement planning and build adequate safety stock wherever warehouse capacity permits. Those relying on just-in-time replenishment models are at the greatest risk of production disruptions in the near term.

Over the medium term, industry stakeholders are calling for greater investment in covered storage infrastructure at key polymer distribution nodes and improved coordination between logistics providers and resin suppliers during monsoon months. Until road conditions normalise, PET and ABS resin supply chains across West and Central India will continue to operate under elevated stress.
